The importance of retail travel shopping : the DFS group

On the occasion of our study tour in China, we had the opportunity to meet, the Global Talent Acquisition Manager and the VP of Global HR.

DFS Group, the world’s leading luxury travel retailer, was founded in 1960 by Mr. Robert Miller and Mr. Charles Feeney. It offers quality merchandise and a seamless shopping experience in its Airports stores and downtown T Galleria locations, both accounting for 50% of the sales of the group. It was acquired by LVMH / Bernard Arnault in 1996.  DFS Group is present in 4 continents, 11 countries with more than 700 brands and 211 million visitors per year. In order to capitalize on the Chinese Market, DFS Group moved its headquarters to Hong Kong 10 years ago.

During the conference we had at the headquarters of DFS Group in Hong Kong, our hosts presented us the group, its values and goals in a few words. We also had the opportunity to discover more about DFS business model, which is to make each client experience prestigious brands and extraordinary services in an innovative store environment. Thus, this luxury travel retailer is mostly focused on the client’s shopping experience, which has to be faultless. DFS Group will soon expand in Europe with opening of their first T Galleria in Venezia.

After that, we also had the opportunity to visit one of the three downtown Hong Kong stores, T Galleria Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Different products categories are offered to the clients, with both local and international luxury brands. Customers appreciate the one stop shopping and often come with a suitcase dedicated to shopping. Unlike in traditional luxury sales locations, sales promotion are mentioned.
